Pingu Pretends to be Ill is the fifth episode of the third season of Pingu which was broadcast on July 13th, 1995.
Summary
Not feeling in the mood for going to school this morning, Pingu pretends to be ill and Mother falls for his trick. While Mother gets him a hot drink, Pingu marvels at how easy it is to skip school.
When Mother leaves the drink and the thermometer on his bed side table and leaves the room, Pingu sticks the thermometer in the drink so that when Mother comes back, she thinks he has a very high temperature. Mother calls the doctor and after checking Pingu over, the doctor steps outside to speak to Mother in privacy. Pingu wonders what this is all about so he listens in at the door and then peers through the key hole and is shocked to see the doctor holding a syringe. Syringes can only mean one thing: injections; something Pingu hates even more than boiled green vegetables. He hides quickly under the bed and while Mother and the doctor go to see if he has gone to the bathroom, he puts on his school backpack and rushes out of the room. Mother sees Pingu disappear and the doctor, knowing what Pingu was up to, laughs and indicates the whole injection thing was simply a tactic.
Pingu arrives at the school just as the teacher is ringing the bell for the start of class. All of Pingu's friends are glad to see him and for the first time in his life, Pingu himself is gladder than he has ever been before to come to school.
