Pingu gets up one morning and goes to the toilet, but he feels quite tired and doesn't want to go to school. When Mother comes in to check on him, Pingu pretends to be ill and Mother decides to keep him home today. She leaves to get him a hot drink and Pingu chortles to himself.
Mother puts the drink on his bedside table with a thermometer and leaves the room. Pingu sticks the thermometer in the drink so that when Mother comes back, she thinks he has a very high temperature. Mother calls the doctor and after checking Pingu over, the doctor steps outside to speak to Mother personally.
Pingu wonders what is going on, so he peers through the key hole and is shocked to see the doctor holding up a large syringe. Pingu is rather worried by what this might mean and hides quickly under the bed. When they come in to check on him, he puts on his school backpack and dashes out the door. Mother sees Pingu disappear and the doctor, knowing what Pingu was up to, laughs and explains that he was going to use the syringe as a way of getting Pingu to admit that he was all right. Pingu arrives at school just as class is starting.
