Pingu Goes Fishing is the fourth episode of the first season.
Summary[]
Pingu is going fishing: he climbs down a series of cliffs into a craggy, secluded area and finds a fishing hole. He soon catches a fish using some leftover seaweed as bait. Robby the seal soon appears behind him and eats his bait, unbeknownst to Pingu. He finds out eventually, and lures Robby away from the ice holes, closing them off with large slabs of ice.
A high-speed chase ensues and Robby tries to escape by forcing his way under the ice slab. When Pingu shouts at him, the ice slab falls on Robby's right flipper and hurts it. Feeling remorseful, Pingu takes pity on Robby and moves the ice slab so he can go back underwater. Recognizing the goodness in Pingu's heart, Robby returns his fishing pole and catches him a large fish. Pingu gives Robby his bait in return and they become friends. Pingu then gathers up all his equipment and heads home with the fish.

- This episode introduces Robby to the series, even though he was proposed to appear in the previous episode as indicated by a rare photo.
- Clips from this episode were used when Helen Skelton appeared on BBC1's "The TV That Made Me", explaining how Pingu was one of her earliest TV memories.
- This episode was used to promote Pingu Forever! in the UK and also Meet Pingu in the US on various DVD and VHS releases from HIT Entertainment in those countries.
Goofs[]
- When Pingu drops his first piece of bait into the water, he is standing up. But when the fish bites, he is sitting down. On the close up of the bobber, it didn't move, showing no sign of movement to Pingu.
- After Pingu pulls the string and closes the second water hole, the small fish that he caught at the beginning of the episode disappears.
- When Pingu catches his first fish, before Robby appears, a column of ice suddenly appears to the left of the screen out of nowhere.
